Why?
Why choose a boarding school?
Mette: My parents work in Singapore, and I would like to have a Danish high school diploma - that´s why I went to a boarding school.
You may choose a boarding school because the distance to your school is too long for you to go home every day. Or maybe you prefer a boarding school because you want to get an education in Denmark, even though your parents live abroad, Or you may have other personal reasons for wanting to attend a boarding school.
Away from home - but in a safe environment at a boarding school
At a boarding school you can enjoy some of the advantages of living at home and of living on your own in the city. You are more on your own and have a greater responsibility to manage your school and your life than if yor lived at home.
On the other hand, you live in good conditions with a set of rules you must obey. There are always adults around you. The dormitory teachers, who are usually teachers at the school as well, take turns supervising student buildings. They will help you with both practical and personal issues.
Your mother will not be there for you
At most boarding schools if you do not go home on weekends, you have to wash your own clothes, keep things tidy and clean your room. In many schools you also need to give a hand with various common duties, perhaps cleaning the common areas or helping in the kitchen.
